Pickleball or Skiing? No! Pickleball AND Skiing

From the slopes to the courts, all in a single getaway

With the quasi-official end of summer, Labor Day, having just passed, my mind turns to winter and my second favorite sport, skiing. We like to ski in Park City where you can easily ski in the morning, and play pickleball in the afternoon or evening. With a little digging, I discovered that this is not unique, several ski towns have added amazing indoor pickleball venues. If you’ve ever wrestled with the pickleball or ski vacation dilemma, now you can have your cake and eat it too! Check these out:

1. Park City, Utah

Starting with one of the premier mountain resorts in the U.S., Park City offers numerous outdoor pickleball courts, plus excellent indoor options like The MARC (Mountain Activity Recreation Center). Located conveniently between Park City and the Canyons Village, The MARC features multiple indoor courts available year-round, making it an ideal spot for pickleball players to enjoy snow or shine. If you already have a foursome, you can book courts at Kellsey Pickleball in Heber City, about a 20 minute drive away.

2. Steamboat Springs, Colorado

Famous for its powdery slopes and charming mountain town, Steamboat Springs also boasts a great indoor pickleball scene. The Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Club offers multiple indoor courts that are accessible year-round. This makes Steamboat a fantastic destination for skiers and pickleball fans alike, offering a cozy indoor alternative to outdoor winter sports.

3. Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Jackson Hole is renowned for its stunning scenery and high-quality skiing. Just a short drive from the resort, Pickleball Garage Jackson provides indoor pickleball courts for year-round play. It’s a prime spot for those looking to enjoy a quick indoor match, especially during snowy months or when outdoor courts are unavailable.

4. Sugar Mountain Resort, North Carolina

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Sugar Mountain is a popular winter destination with excellent outdoor courts. For year-round play, nearby Summit Pickleball in Boone, NC features multiple indoor courts. This makes Sugar and Boone a perfect combo for mountain skiing and indoor pickleball, with scenic views and top-notch facilities.

For skiers wanting year-round pickleball options, these destinations, Park City, Steamboat Springs, Jackson Hole, Sugar Mountain/Boone, present an amazing mix of quality skiing and indoor courts. You can also consider it a hedge against the weather. Snow can be unpredictable, and if the mountain is not in the best shape you can still be active and have fun!
