An Unbiased Review of Pickleball Camp

A straight look at the camp experience

Joyce and I recently attended a Level Up Pickleball Camp, and I have to say, it was a pretty solid experience that definitely helped me improve my game. Did it take my game to a whole new level? No. But am I a different player on the court now? Absolutely.

The best part? There was plenty of court time. There was drilling, practicing, and playing across the spectrum. The training itself was broad, covering almost everything you’d want to know about pickleball. From serving and volleying to dinking and overheads, they made sure we covered all the bases.

The instructors did a good job reaching folks at different skill levels, whether you’re just starting out or trying to sharpen your tactics. The variety of topics kept things interesting, and I appreciated how they balanced technical advice with game strategy, court positioning, and mental toughness. It felt like a well-rounded program that didn’t leave anything out.

The instructors were friendly and knowledgeable, and they encouraged questions, which was helpful. They’d demonstrate drills and techniques clearly, making it easier to grasp the concepts. But, if I had to point out a downside, it’s that there wasn’t a lot of one-on-one feedback. Most of the coaching was in a group setting, so if you’re someone who thrives on personalized advice or tips tailored specifically to your play style, you might find that a bit limiting. Additionally, while they did break us out by skill on day one, on day two they didn’t and I think that limited some of the drilling for both the more skilled players and less skilled.

That said, the overall experience was definitely worth it. The focus on tons of court time plus a wide range of topics made it perfect for players who want to ramp up their skills quickly. It’s a great way to get a lot of practice and learn new tricks in a short amount of time. Considering how little most of us drill, it was probably three months worth of practice crammed into one weekend.

Being in our home area, we played with several people that we know, and we made some new friends as well. Making new friends is right in line with the pickleball experience. And I’ll add that playing with some of the campers in the last week or two post-camp, the improvement in their game is noticeable as well.

In short, it’s a well-organized, comprehensive camp that offers a lot of on-court action and good instruction from Scott, Lynn and Amore, who were superb. Just keep in mind if more personalized coaching is what you’re after, you might want to look at supplementing with some private lessons down the road. Overall, a positive experience that should bring your game up a notch.
